A south-facing point on the Baja coast below Ensenada, Boca De Santo Tomas combines a right-hand pointbreak with rocky beachbreak and a rivermouth, all tucked behind enough headland to stay glassy when northerly winds are howling. It works best on S to NW swell in the 3-10ft range, with the kelp helping to hold the surface smooth and the south-facing orientation providing solid wind protection most days. Optimum tide is all tides, though the point's longer walls favor mid-incoming when push starts organizing the sets. Intermediate surfers get the most out of the varied setups here, and crowds are manageable outside of busy holiday weekends when Ensenada day-trippers make the drive. Bottom: point and rocky beach. Season: late summer through early winter for combined S and NW groundswells. Consistency: medium. Follow signs for La Bocana and bring a 4WD or high-clearance vehicle because the dirt access trail can get rough after rain.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are described as "sometimes" present, meaning the spot fills up when swell hits and it's a weekend. The drive filters casual visitors, but the camping scene means a dedicated crew is often already there. Respect the priority of those who camped overnight and read the lineup before paddling straight to the peak.

Access & Facilities

Follow La Bocana / Punta China signs south of Ensenada. A 4WD or high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended. Free camping is available on-site with basic facilities. Bring all food and water from Ensenada before heading down the dirt access road.

Nearby Alternatives

If Santo Tomas is too small, Cabo Colonet to the south picks up S to W swell with long but inconsistent rights along the coastline. On bigger NW pulses, the consistent barrels at K55/Campo Lopez and K58/La Fonda closer to Ensenada are worth checking, especially if you want more reliable swell options without a long dirt-road drive.
