A beach break north of Rosarito that punches well above its pay grade when a long-period NW swell or NW-plus-SSW combo rolls in, bending around the offshore bathymetry into hollow, powerful peaks. Offshore winds from the E, ESE, or NE are the trigger that turn this stretch into spitting barrels at head-high to double-overhead. Mid tide is the sweet spot. Intermediate to advanced surfers are the right call here: the thick lips snap boards and the impact zone is punishing on bigger days. It runs moderate crowds most of the time, but the local vibe can get intense when the surf fires. Bottom: sand. Season: October through January is peak, though it can be fun year-round. Consistency: moderate. Water quality is genuinely poor, often murky and brown, especially after rain due to raw sewage inputs from nearby sources, so weigh your exposure on heavy rain weeks carefully before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday crowds are sparse, weekends bring a few more surfers. Forecasts rate the local vibe at 6/10 doable, but warns it can get very intense when the surf is firing. Give respect to locals, especially in the peak zone on bigger swells, and there's enough beach to spread out.

Access & Facilities

The spot sits off the toll road just after the San Antonio exit, north of Cantamar. Parking is near the bar at the exit, the cobblestone road to the beach is private and gated. There is a KOA campground at the San Antonio exit with hot showers and electricity for overnight trips. Avoid surfing here for several days after significant rainfall due to raw sewage contamination.

Nearby Alternatives

If Baja Malibu is not delivering, it serves as a useful conditions gauge before heading further south. K38, La Fonda, and San Miguel are all classic Baja breaks within 30-60 minutes south along the toll road and are worth checking if the swell has more size or better shape further down the coast.
