It needs a solid swell to switch on and works best with offshore winds and the right tide to hold its shape. At head high and under, the wave is manageable for competent surfers, push it bigger and the speed and power demand sharp reflexes. The lineup stays genuinely uncrowded, which is the main draw given the wave's inconsistency. Bottom: coral reef. Season: May to October for peak Southern Hemisphere swell.
