Optimal on SW to SSW swell with the magic direction sitting around 222º, it works across all tides and improves with incoming push. The take-off feeds straight into a barrel that spits out onto a racing wall before connecting with a hollow, shallow end section that pipes hard when swell hits overhead and above. Intermediates will find head-high days genuinely enjoyable, but anything pumping demands real tube-riding commitment and precise positioning. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: SW swell season, April through October. Consistency: high. The end sections are fin-scrapingly shallow, so when you fall, stay flat and let the current carry you into the channel rather than fighting it toward the inside.
Two surf camps operate directly adjacent and passing charters moor in the bay regularly, so expect company. The lineup can fill fast when swell is running. No heavy localism reported, but standard charter etiquette applies: respect priority, don't snake, and be patient when camps rotate their groups through. Dawn sessions before the charter boats shift position offer the calmest windows.
No road access, no parking, no facilities on site. Arrival is by boat from a live-aboard charter or one of the nearby surf camps. No reported pollution or hazards beyond the shallow reef on the inside. Bring reef booties if your feet run sensitive. The channel current is your friend after a wipeout on the end section.
Camel sits just west of Gunturs and picks up the same SW swell window, offering a change of pace when Gunturs is maxed out or overcrowded. Dindos, deeper in the bay, delivers playful performance lefts on the same swell. Lolok Point to the south is a left for committed tube riders when conditions align.
