A long, walling left-hand point-reef on the southern Sumatran coast, Ujung Bocur delivers alternate barrel and wall sections that shift character with swell size, tide, and direction. It handles Indian Ocean SW to W swell from under 3ft up to 10ft-plus, staying coherent across a wide size range. Offshore and sideshore winds dominate May through October, the core season for quality. Lower tides and more westerly swell angles tend to coax the hollower sections near the top of the point, where the reef shallows and gets serious. Intermediate surfers can work the fatter outside walls comfortably, advanced surfers will hunt the ledgey barrel sections at the top. Crowds arrive from nearby Krui and Mandiri during peak season, particularly when surf is sub-5ft, so expect a competitive lineup on those days despite the remote feel. Bottom: reef. Season: April to September. Consistency: high, rarely flat. Bring a step-up board for bigger days and respect the reef near the peak, which is unforgiving at low tide.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

During peak season, surfers from Krui and nearby camp towns paddle out regularly. Under 4 to 5ft the lineup can get busy. Over 6ft the crowd thins significantly and the wave opens up. Localism is not reported as heavy, but a respectful approach to the top of the point, especially on bigger days, keeps things civil. Dawn sessions reduce pressure.

Access & Facilities

Krui is the nearest hub, roughly 20 minutes north, with accommodation, food, and board ding repair available. The drive from Bandar Lampung is around six hours. Local knowledge for entry points is genuinely useful, particularly on larger swells. The area has multiple other quality waves nearby, making it a strong base for a multi-day Lampung trip. Water quality is generally good.

Nearby Alternatives

The wider Krui coast holds several other reef and point setups that fire in similar swell windows, so a flat or blown-out day at Ujung Bocur rarely means no surf. When this wave closes out on very large swell, explore the broader southern Sumatran coastline for sheltered options.
