A hollow, ledging left that only fires when significant swell pushes deep into Krui Bay, on the southwest coast of Lampung, Sumatra. It needs S to W swell at 10ft-plus at the exposed outer breaks before it even flickers to life here, and a moderate SW is the sweet spot. SE winds blow clean and offshore. Works across all tides, though small days produce a softer, more forgiving wall compared to the vertical drops and open barrel sections that appear when the swell pumps. The protected position means it runs at roughly half the size of exposed breaks like Ujung Bocur, so expect 3-8ft faces when the ocean is genuinely moving. Intermediate to advanced surfers can manage it, but on a solid SW the crowd swells fast. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: May through October. Consistency: medium, fires maybe 5-10 times a dry season, good twice. Skip it after heavy rain when the nearby river mouth pushes brown water through the lineup.
When Krui Left switches on during a moderate SW, surfers who can't handle the exposed reef breaks funnel in here. Up to 40 in the water is common on a good day, compressed into a small take-off zone. Dawn patrol gives the best chance of space before the crowd builds. Respect the peak rotation and don't snake.
Right in the middle of town, just south of the harbour. Easy walk or short drive, paid parking available. Hello Mister surf shop stocks gear in town. Avoid the water entirely when the river mouth is running brown after rain.
Krui Right sits across the bay and needs a bigger SW or WSW swell to break properly. When Krui Left is too small or too crowded, Ujung Bocur to the south is the main regional draw and picks up far more swell. Jenny's, further north, offers fun rights in any W to N wind.
