A mellow sand-bar beach break near Anyer on Java's northwest coast, Jambu is a practical option for beginners and improvers within striking distance of Jakarta. It needs a SW to W swell of at least 2-2.5m on the chart to wake up, and tidal sensitivity is the main variable: low to mid tide produces the cleanest peaks, while high tide tends to kill the banks or cause close-outs on bigger swells. The beach runs about 200m, flanked by a rock wall to the south and reef to the north, which sets up lefts off the wall, A-frame peaks off a shifting centre bank, and rights on the northern end when the sand cooperates. Weekdays are nearly empty, a handful of surfers shows up on weekends. When the swell is pumping, local regulars typically head to Pasauran reef instead, leaving Jambu to the learners. Bottom: sand. Season: SW swell season, roughly May to September. Consistency: low to moderate. Watch the rips, which can be strong on bigger swells.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is a relaxed, welcoming lineup. Weekdays are practically empty and weekends see only a few surfers. Serious local surfers gravitate to Pasauran reef when the swell is real, which keeps Jambu mellow and beginner-friendly. No localism pressure reported.

Access & Facilities

Directly off the Anyer-Carita road, roughly 2.5 hours from Jakarta via the Merak Toll road. Park on the beach for a small fee (around IDR 25,000). No long walk required. Basic facilities in the Anyer area nearby.

Nearby Alternatives

When Jambu is blown out or closing out, Pasauran reef sits nearby and handles more swell with better shape, though it demands intermediate to advanced ability. The broader Anyer-Carita stretch has a handful of additional beach and reef options worth checking if the sandbars are not cooperating.
