One of the longest, most powerful left-hand reef breaks on the planet, G-Land uncoils across a remote jungle-backed bay on the southeastern tip of Java. S and SW swell at 6-18ft, channelled by the bay's geometry, produces four distinct sections: Kong's, Money Trees, Launching Pad, and the legendary Speedies. Offshore E trades lock in through the dry season, April to October, when the SE tradewinds provide clean, groomed faces most mornings. This is strictly an expert venue: the lava and coral reef is shallow and razor-sharp, sets arrive without mercy, and paddling between sections is genuinely exhausting. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: April to October. Consistency: high. Surf Speedies on the push from quarter tide to manage the shallowing reef, bring a helmet for Money Trees at low tide, and carry a quality step-up or gun for anything above 8ft. Access is by boat or reef walk from the surf camps north of the point, there is no casual day-trip option here.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Access is controlled through a handful of surf camps, which naturally caps the crowd. Sessions at Money Trees can still get competitive, especially when a boat drops a full camp roster at the same peak. Locals and camp guides are welcoming, but shoulder-hopping is dealt with naturally by the wave itself: get caught behind on a cutback and the next section will punish the misjudgement.

Access & Facilities

All access runs through the G-Land surf camps, reachable by boat from Bali or Grajagan. The camps supply meals, basic accommodation, and boat transfers between sections. No day visitors. Bring reef booties, a helmet, and more wax than you think you need. Reef cuts are the standard hazard, carry antiseptic.

Nearby Alternatives

When G-Land's main sections are maxed out or flat, 20/20s to the north offers a smaller, more manageable peak through a break in the fringing reef. Tiger Tracks Rights, a forgiving righthand sand-bottom wave across the bay, is the go-to when the lefts are too heavy or the wind turns onshore.
