A mellow beach break on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, Playa Brasilito picks up swell in the 3-5ft range and stays manageable even when nearby breaks get overwhelmed. It works on all tides and all swell directions typical for the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica, making it a dependable fallback rather than a destination wave. The vibe is low-key and the crowd is thin even on weekends, which suits surfers looking for uncrowded water over quality performance surf. Swell from the NW to SW window keeps it alive during the dry season (December through April) and the rainy season (May through November) pushes in bigger, sloppier pulses. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, with cleaner conditions Dec-Apr. Consistency: moderate. Don't come here chasing barrels, come here when Tamarindo is rammed or Flamingo is too big and you want an easygoing session with room to breathe.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the uncrowded stretches on a peninsula that has seen heavy surf tourism. Weekdays and weekends both draw few surfers. No notable localism reported. The low crowds are partly because the wave doesn't attract performance surfers hunting size or hollow sections.

Access & Facilities

Brasilito town sits on the beach and is walkable from the main road. The town is functional rather than polished, with basic amenities. Tamarindo, about 10 minutes by car, has full services: restaurants, board rentals, and gear shops. Water quality in the area can vary, especially after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

Flamingo Point is a short drive north and offers a more defined reef/point setup when swell has direction. Tamarindo's long beach picks up swell consistently and has multiple peaks across all skill levels. Conchal, just south, has a sheltered A-frame that rarely breaks but is worth a look on bigger swells.
