A raw left-hand point peeling over rock and sand in front of a rivermouth on Chile's remote central-south coast, Tregualemu delivers fast, walling rides up to 15ft when the swell and sand align. Optimal conditions call for S to W swell, SE offshore winds, and enough size to activate the point. Works across all tides, with the sand configuration being the deciding factor for wave quality. The spot suits expert surfers only: access is restricted via a private track, the wave moves fast, and the rivermouth introduces water quality concerns from estuary pollution. Bottom: mixed rock and sand. Season: autumn through spring for consistent Southern Ocean groundswell. Consistency: medium. Get there early and ask permission to use the private road, or walk the 1km stretch south from the beach to the north. With no facilities on site, arrive self-sufficient with water, food, and a full quiver. Crowds are rarely a problem, but the logistics filter all but the committed.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the least crowded setups in the region. Restricted access, no facilities, and moderate consistency keep the lineup sparse even when it's firing. That said, the surfers who make the effort tend to be experienced and territorial by default. Give respect, read the room, and don't drop in.

Access & Facilities

Access is via a private track: ask landowner permission before driving in, or walk 1km south along the beach from the access point to the north. Zero facilities. Bring everything you need including fresh water and food. Estuary and river pollution is a known issue, avoid the water after heavy rain. Nearest services are inland.

Nearby Alternatives

When Tregualemu isn't cooperating, Pullay offers a sandy left point with more forgiving access to the north. Buchupureo's La Boca rivermouth is the standout in the region, producing long groomed lefts with more consistency. Rinconada runs similar long-wall lefts without much hollow if you need a slightly mellower option.
