Crowd & Localism
Lineupp pressure is minimal most of the year. The local crew is welcoming, but Forecasts flag petty theft at the carpark, so leave valuables out of sight in your vehicle. One annual contest is the only time numbers genuinely spike.
A long left point peeling from the headland into the bay is the standout wave in this city stretch of southern Chile's coast. SW and W swells wrap around the point and unwind toward the pier base, best at low tide when the sand-and-rock bottom shapes clean, walling lines. Slightly overhead is the sweet spot: enough juice to generate proper sections without closing out. Intermediate to advanced surfers will get the most out of it, and crowds are rarely an issue except during the one annual contest. Bottom: sand and rock. Season: February–April. Consistency: moderate. Pack a leash plug spare and keep an eye on your gear onshore.

Paddle out from within the fishing complex. If you're staying at Maci accommodation, the wave is effectively in front of the house. Water quality is clean but can turn murky after heavy rain, worth checking after a big downpour.
Southern Chile has scattered beach breaks and points up and down the coast that pick up similar SW and W swell windows. When El Puerto goes flat or the wind turns onshore, explore the exposed beaches north of the city for residual swell.
