A semi-right pointbreak sitting 7km north of La Serena, Punta Teatinos delivers consistent, mellow waves that cap a long beachbreak stretch backed by resorts and a bird-rich lagoon. S to SW swells wrap around the point and NE offshore winds keep faces clean. The wave runs 50-100m and works across all tides, sitting best in the 2-6ft range before closing out. Beginners and intermediates will find the point forgiving on smaller days, and the lineup is rarely crowded outside La Serena's peak summer season of January and February when the resort town pulls in crowds. Bottom: point over mixed sand. Season: year-round with highest swell consistency in austral winter. Consistency: high. Be aware that when A-frames hit overhead on the beachbreak section, the paddle-out gets heavy and the wave loses its shape, so smaller, cleaner days are where this spot shines.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is generally empty. La Serena fills up sharply in January and February as Chilean summer holiday crowds arrive, and some of that traffic spills north to Punta Teatinos. Outside those two months, expect a quiet session. Localism is not flagged as a concern here.

Access & Facilities

No dedicated parking and no facilities on site. The stretch is backed by resort infrastructure servicing the La Serena tourism corridor, so water and food are accessible nearby rather than at the break itself. No pollution or major hazard concerns noted, but bring everything you need before heading out.

Nearby Alternatives

If Punta Teatinos is closing out in bigger S swell, Totoralillo to the north holds three pointbreaks on a circular rocky peninsula that offer more shelter and shape. For a different angle, La Vedette to the south bends solid S-SW swell into barrelling lefts along a rocky point when conditions align.
