Soft beachbreak peaks in front of the airport runway outside Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, make Playa Blanca a functional learner option when the rest of the island is too big or too technical. It needs N to NE windswells or easterly trades to generate any surf at all, meaning good days are infrequent. When it does fire, expect short-walled 1-4ft peaks, both lefts and rights, with enough separation across the wide beach to accommodate surf schools without the lineup getting too tight. Beginners and early intermediates will find manageable conditions on small days, but the wave is ordinary by Fuerteventura standards. Bottom: sand. Season: November to March. Consistency: low. Watch for red flags from the lifeguards on bigger or windier days, as they will close the beach to surfing and it is worth checking with them before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Surf schools use this beach regularly, particularly mid-morning. On rare clean mornings you may have it to yourself briefly, but expect company once lessons start. Atmosphere is generally relaxed and friendly. Weekend afternoons can get busy across the beach, though the long stretch of sand absorbs numbers well.

Access & Facilities

Dedicated car park directly at the beach off the airport road makes access straightforward. Lifeguards are on duty seasonally. Puerto del Rosario is minutes away for food and supplies. Watch your car at the car park as petty theft has been reported in the area.

Nearby Alternatives

When Playa Blanca is flat, the long beachbreak stretch paralleling the airport further along the coast can produce small peaks on stronger NE windswells. On days when proper swell is running, the reef breaks on the west coast of Fuerteventura will be far superior and worth the drive.
