A punchy reef right breaks a 10-minute paddle off Porto de Galinhas harbour, offering glassy morning barrels over a shallow outside reef on E to S swell. Best in the 3-8ft range, it works from mid tide and favours westerly offshores that clean up the face. An occasional left peels from the same peak, though the right is the main event. Beachbreak peaks at Borete, right in town, fill in on smaller days and tend to run emptier than the offshore reef. The wider Porto de Galinhas area is a high-traffic resort with over 60 pousadas, so crowds can build on weekends, but the paddle distance to the outside reef filters some of the pressure. Bottom: reef and beach. Season: year-round, peaking autumn and winter. Consistency: medium. Shark activity is documented along this stretch of Pernambuco coast, so surf with awareness and avoid dawn and dusk sessions.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Porto de Galinhas is one of Brazil's most visited beach resorts. The lineup at the outside reef is manageable given the paddle, but weekend and holiday crowds can be competitive. The Borete beachbreak is usually quieter. Standard Brazilian lineup etiquette applies.

Access & Facilities

Paddle out from the harbour area, roughly 10 minutes to the outside reef. A car park serves the town. Camping is available nearby, and the resort has no shortage of food, water, and accommodation options. No significant pollution concerns. Shark awareness is essential along this coast.

Nearby Alternatives

Maracaipe, south of town, hosted the 2000 World Surfing Games and is the most consistent beach in the zone. Cupe, south of the Suape jetty, offers a long stretch of consistent peaks. Ponta de Serrambi delivers hollow, spitting barrels over shallow reef when it's on.
