Fernando de Noronha's most consistent wave, Cacimba do Padre fires on NW-N swells that can double in size against the volcanic Dois Irmãos backdrop, producing barreling peaks from 3ft to well overhead. NW through NE swell hits the outside shelf and peels left toward the inside, growing hollower and more consequential as it goes. SE winds groom it clean. Rights exist but the longer, more makeable left is the draw. Works at all tides, though a high-tide wedge can peel off the base of the rocks on smaller swells. Bottom is flat rock covered by sand, and by February and March the sand has been excavated into optimal formation. This wave demands expert-level surfing: slabs close out hard on fine sand, lips are heavy, and big days see broken boards and head-first wipeouts. Bottom: sand-over-rock. Season: November through March. Consistency: high. Bring at least two fast, responsive shortboards because you will likely snap one.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Midweek mornings are manageable, a handful of tube-hunters in the lineup. During the annual pro contest, crowds spike significantly. Localism is minimal: the island's resident surfers are intertwined with the tourism economy and you will likely encounter them before you paddle out. That said, the wave's severity self-selects, casual surfers do not belong here on a big day.

Access & Facilities

Fernando de Noronha is a remote oceanic island off Brazil's northeast coast. Access to the island requires a flight from Recife or Natal. Cacimba is in a remote part of the island, a rented buggy or cab is the standard approach. A carpark is available but facilities are absent, so come self-sufficient with water and food. The island enforces a strict tourist cap of 450 visitors at any one time, which limits overall crowd pressure.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cacimba is maxed out or flat, the northeastern end of the same beach called Bode catches consistent peaks. Boldro offers barreling lefts and rights on a hazardous reef when it is small. Praia do Meio holds multiple peaks that work best on mid tides and provides a lower-consequence option when the main peak is too heavy.
