A sheltered sandbar tucked inside Grays Harbor, Damon Point delivers fast, hollow peaks when the outer coast is blown out or maxed out beyond usefulness. Located at the southern tip of the Ocean Shores peninsula in Washington State, it picks up swell differently from the exposed Westport beachbreaks nearby, meaning it can fire in conditions that shut everything else down. Optimal windows arrive on larger NW or W swells that wrap into the harbor mouth, combining with offshore or light winds to produce steep, punchy walls with surprisingly long rides for a protected spot. Best at 5-8ft, it holds size well and stays surprisingly organized even when the coast is chaotic. The lineup skews experienced: the paddle-out reads differently from standard beach breaks and the waves are fast enough to punish hesitation. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring. Consistency: fickle but memorable when it clicks. Sea lions share the lineup regularly, which is harmless but unsettling when you're surfing solo at dawn.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

One of the least crowded waves in Washington. Most surfers default to Westport and few make the walk to find this bar. Weekdays you can expect an empty lineup. Weekends see a handful at most. The spot's relative obscurity is part of its value, so keep noise about specific conditions to yourself.

Access & Facilities

Head to Damon Point State Park at the end of the Ocean Shores peninsula. Park in the day-use lot and walk south along the beach. Expect a 15-minute walk to reach the working bar. No facilities at the break itself. Ocean Shores town has food and lodging. Bring your own water and wax. Check the outer coast swell reports carefully before making the drive.

Nearby Alternatives

Westport is the region's primary surf hub, 20 minutes south across the harbor entrance, with consistent beachbreak peaks and full amenities. When Damon Point is too small or the swell angle isn't cooperating, the Westport jetty and surrounding bars typically offer more reliable options.
