A low-key beach break on Washington's coast that rewards patience over precision, Crescent Beach delivers punchy peaks across a stretch of sand that rarely sees more than a handful of surfers in the water at once. It needs a decent swell pulse to wake up, and hurricane-remnant energy has pushed faces to around 5ft, which seems to be the upper end of what this break produces. NW or W groundswell with light offshore winds from the E or SE is the call here. Mid-skill surfers comfortable reading inconsistent beach break will get the most out of it, while beginners can work the smaller sections without much pressure from other surfers. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through winter for best swell. Consistency: low to moderate. Dawn patrol timing is worth it on swell days since crowds rarely build, but the lineup can shift quickly as sandbars move with the seasons.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

One of the quieter lineups on the Washington coast. Even on weekends the crowd rarely exceeds a dozen surfers, and that's only when it's genuinely firing. Locals are welcoming as long as basic right-of-way is respected. Give waves, don't drop in, and keep communication open.

Access & Facilities

A parking lot is available on site with additional street parking nearby. South Beach Grill is close for a post-session meal. No known access issues. Cold Pacific water means a full wetsuit is essential year-round, and booties are worth bringing in winter.

Nearby Alternatives

When Crescent Beach isn't cooperating, other exposed Washington coast beach breaks along the Olympic Peninsula pick up more consistent NW swell and offer better options on smaller swells. Check broader swell forecasts before committing to the drive.
