A mile-long stretch of open beach peaks along the North Padre Island seawall delivers one of the more consistent beach breaks on the Texas Gulf Coast. S, SE, and E swells feed the sandbars best, with N, NW, or W winds cleaning up the faces. Medium tide is the sweet spot, too low and sections shallow out, too high and the energy backs off. Works waist to head high, with the full size range rideable for most skill levels from beginners to experienced surfers looking for a quick Gulf session. Bottom: sand. Season: late summer through fall, late winter to mid-spring. Consistency: moderate. Strong longshore currents run persistently here, so plan for drift sessions rather than holding a fixed peak, and shuffle your feet on the way in to avoid stingray strikes.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The mile-long stretch means crowd pressure stays low. Even on good days, it's easy to find an uncrowded peak by walking up or down the seawall. The local vibe is welcoming and relaxed, making this a comfortable entry point for visiting surfers.

Access & Facilities

Park directly on the seawall road or drive onto the beach. Easy access with no paddle-out hazards beyond the persistent longshore current. Stingrays are the main hazard, especially in warmer months. Shuffle your feet in the shallows. Water quality is relatively clean.

Nearby Alternatives

When the Gulf is flat or onshore winds have it blown out, nearby Packery Channel jetties can produce punchier wedge-style peaks on small E or SE swell. South Padre Island breaks further down the coast offer similar beach break options when north winds push cleaner conditions south.
