Sand shoals over the sunken Confederate blockade runner Acadia give Boilers its defining quirk: the buried wreck concentrates sandbars and occasionally throws up a genuine hollow peak amid the otherwise scattered beach break scene at Surfside, Texas. Best on S to SE swell from waist to head high, with N, NW, or W winds keeping faces clean. High tide is preferred per the forecast, though the wave works across a low-to-high range depending on sand movement. The main draw is relative solitude compared to the crowded jetties up the beach, and the lineup trends genuinely mellow with a welcoming local vibe. Bottom: sand over buried wreck. Season: late summer through fall, late winter to mid-spring. Consistency: medium. Water quality is fair given proximity to Freeport harbor and its chemical plants, so check conditions after heavy rain before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is consistently low-pressure and welcoming. Its distance from the main Surfside jetties keeps weekend crowds light by Texas standards. On a good day with solid swell, numbers pick up, but localism is essentially nonexistent.

Access & Facilities

Drive the beach and park directly on the sand, access is free and straightforward. No facilities on site. Watch for soft sand when driving. The Freeport harbor proximity means water quality can dip, worth checking after rainfall.

Nearby Alternatives

When Boilers is flat or messy, the Surfside jetties a short drive up the beach pick up more swell and provide defined structure. Galveston Island offers additional beach break options when south swell is in the water across the upper Texas coast.
