A stretch of open beach south of Meacom's Pier on Galveston Island, A-Frames is a sandbars-dependent beach break that gives you space and solitude when it's on. SE to S swell at waist to slightly overhead, paired with N to NW winds, is the formula. Mid tide keeps things cleaner. The crowd is almost nonexistent, which matters more than the wave quality most days. Bottom: sand. Season: late summer through fall and late winter to mid-spring. Consistency: moderate to low. Come with realistic expectations and be ready for longshore drift. Strong lateral currents mean you'll walk the beach between sessions, so pick a landmark and track your position. Water quality near the Houston shipping channel and Galveston runoff is often poor, especially after rain.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The vibe here is about as welcoming as beach breaks get. A-Frames sees minimal foot traffic and the lineup is largely empty. You're more likely to have a peak entirely to yourself than deal with any drop-in friction. No localism signal at all.

Access & Facilities

No parking infrastructure or facilities on-site. Drive south from Meacom's Pier along the seawall and you're there. Bring your own water and food. No rentals nearby. Water quality is fair at best and frequently questionable, so consider the conditions before paddling out after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

Meacom's Pier area offers slightly more consistent sandbars with similar conditions and marginally better amenities. When Galveston is flat, the Texas coast is largely flat, so a swell check before driving is non-negotiable.
