Oyambre delivers shifting A-frame beachbreak peaks across a long, protected bay tucked between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera on Cantabria's coast. SW to N swell windows of 2-6ft are the sweet spot, with southerly winds going offshore and the western end offering partial shelter when SW or W winds are less than ideal. It suits intermediates looking for uncrowded fun, and the bay's natural park setting means the lineup stays quiet even on weekends. Bottom: sand. Season: Sep-Apr. Consistency: medium. Bring a versatile shortboard or fish for the smaller days, and check the western end first when wind is borderline.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Rarely crowded. The natural park setting and limited facilities keep numbers low year-round, and the beach is wide enough that even a small crowd spreads out. No notable localism reported. Dawn patrol in spring or autumn gets you the best chance of clean conditions and an empty lineup.

Access & Facilities

Park at the beachside car park off the coastal road between Comillas and San Vicente. There is a campsite nearby but limited services, so bring water and food. The water is clean with no reported pollution issues.

Nearby Alternatives

When Oyambre is too small, San Vicente de la Barquera picks up more swell and can be excellent on the right sandbar. Further east, Comillas offers a couple of options when a solid NW swell is running.
