Shifting A-frame peaks on a quiet stretch of Cantabrian coast, Langre is a beachbreak that rewards patience with punchy, powerful walls when the sandbars align. It needs a solid NW to W swell to switch on, works best at low to mid tide, and goes soft or closes out in overhead-plus conditions when the banks can't hold the energy. Offshore on southerly winds, it handles 2-6ft cleanly before the walls start sectioning. Intermediate surfers will find the most value here: the wave is short, punchy, and unforgiving enough to keep beginners honest, but without the crowd pressure or consequence of heavier regional spots. Bottom: sand. Season: September through April. Consistency: medium. Avoid summer months when Liquid Surf camp buses 30-plus people to the lineup daily, and note that stormwater runoff affects water quality after heavy rain. Camping is available nearby and parking is straightforward outside peak summer.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

In autumn and winter the beach is practically deserted, making it one of the quieter options on this stretch of coast. Summer changes the equation significantly: a surf camp operates nearby and can bus large groups to the beach, turning a quiet session into a chaotic one. Dawn patrol or shoulder-season timing bypasses this entirely.

Access & Facilities

A car park serves the beach and is manageable outside July and August. Camping is available in the area. There are limited beach facilities on-site. Stormwater runoff can affect water quality after sustained rain, so check conditions after heavy weather. No significant paddle-out hazards reported.

Nearby Alternatives

When Langre is too small or the banks are off, the beachbreaks at Loredo and Somo to the west are more consistent swell magnets with longer stretches of sand and multiple peaks. For something completely different, Santa Marina's right-hand reef is in the same region and comes alive on bigger NW swells when beachbreaks close out.
