Brusand is a shifting beachbreak on Norway's Jæren coast, about 40km south of Stavanger, picking up S and NW swells that refract into punchy, short-lived peaks. Offshore winds blow from the NE, and the spot works across all tides, though it needs a proper sandbar to deliver its best. Size range is 1-8ft, with the most productive windows running late summer through autumn when both swell and sand align. It suits intermediate surfers comfortable reading shifting peaks and handling stronger-than-average rip currents. Bottom: beach. Season: July-November. Consistency: medium. Dune erosion is an active issue across Jæren, so stick to the marked paths on the walk in from Ogna Camping, and expect to pay for parking at the campsite. The currents here run stronger than beaches further north on Jæren, so paddle out with awareness and don't underestimate the water movement on bigger days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekend crowds are essentially nonexistent. The Jæren coast is thinly surfed relative to its swell exposure, and Brusand sits well south of the main population centers. That said, local knowledge about sandbar conditions is worth seeking before paddling out.

Access & Facilities

Take road 44 south from Stavanger past Brusand, turn right to Ogna Camping, park there (fee applies), and walk roughly 200m to the beach. Camping facilities are available on site. No serious pollution or hazard concerns beyond the stronger-than-average currents.

Nearby Alternatives

Kvassheim, a short drive north, is considered the standout wave on the Jæren coast and handles similar NW swell with faster, more performance-oriented walls. Bore and Ogna offer comparable beachbreak setups nearby when sandbars are shifting. If Brusand is closing out, moving up the coast usually finds better bar configuration.
