Manzanillo is the main arrival airport for surfers heading to Colima, and that gateway status means the area carries a mixed bag of waves ranging from mellow learner beaches to genuinely terrifying beachbreak. S and SW swells light up the better setups from March through September, with NE to ESE winds keeping faces clean. Playa Miramar suits beginners on smaller S pulses, while Olas Altas handles SW-W energy for more experienced locals. Pascuales, the standout break of the region, is a bombing black-sand beachbreak that holds to 15ft and beyond and is absolutely not for the faint-hearted. Bottom: sand, rock, reef. Season: March-September primary, with occasional winter windows on NW swell. Consistency: medium. Bring a step-up if there's any size forecast, because getting caught inside at Pascuales on a set wave is a legitimate safety issue, not just discomfort.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are moderate overall, thinning naturally when surf exceeds head-high at most breaks. Pascuales concentrates experienced and local surfers and localism runs heavy there. Read the lineup, wait your turn, and do not drop in. The area's airport proximity means a steady flow of traveling surfers, so expect semi-crowded conditions on the better peaks during peak season.

Access & Facilities

Manzanillo town has full tourist infrastructure: food, water, accommodation, surf schools near Miramar. Several spots require dirt roads that demand 4WD. Water quality varies, with estuary and river influence affecting some breaks after rain. Rental boards are available near the beach schools for beginners.

Nearby Alternatives

If the bay is blown out or overrun, El Paraiso to the south offers fast triangular peaks on a black-sand beach. Boca de Apisa picks up NW winter swell for long rivermouth lefts when summer S swells go quiet.
