A reef-anchored A-frame at the edge of Barra de Navidad's breakwall delivers a quick left for learners and a longer, faster right for surfers looking to push harder, all within easy reach of the malecon. North-facing orientation gives it useful shelter when S or SW swells blow out exposed beaches further down the Jalisco-Colima coastline. Best at 3-5ft on SW to NW groundswell, low to mid tide, with light offshore or northerly wind keeping faces clean. The crowd stays thin most of the week, and local groms on battered hand-me-down boards will remind you how well this place is surfed by the people who grew up on it. Bottom: reef and rock. Season: May through October for summer SW swell, with occasional NW winter pulses. Consistency: moderate. Watch the shorebreak on the way in and out, it hits harder than it looks, and manage the backwash on the inside section.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup stays uncrowded most days, even weekends. Local kids are skilled and friendly, and the standard protocol applies: give them the wave, they earned it. No reported heavy localism, but respect goes a long way in a small town where everyone knows each other.

Access & Facilities

Park near the malecon and walk to the beach by the breakwall. PAWA Surf down the street rents boards and organises day trips to nearby breaks, useful if this one isn't firing. Beachfront bars make the wait between sets very manageable. Water quality is generally fine away from the river mouth.

Nearby Alternatives

When Barra is flat or blown out, PAWA can point you toward other setups along the Costalegre coast that pick up more open-ocean swell. The region has several beach and point options that activate on different swell angles.
