A superb left-hander wrapping around the Pointe du Marégau on the Marseille coast, Pin Rolland reels down a rocky shelf delivering long walls with the occasional hollow section across 100-200m of rideable face. It fires on any SE to SW swell and NE winds keep it clean, with SE winds also workable when they shift further east. Suited to intermediate and above, the lineup can get busy when it's on, partly because consistency is genuinely low and surfers travel when conditions align. Bottom: rocky shelf point. Season: autumn and winter when Mediterranean storm swells track from the SE-SW corridor. Consistency: low. When it does light up, a step-up or standard shortboard handles the longer walls best, and arriving early is non-negotiable given how infrequently this spot fires and how quickly the crowd builds.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Pin Rolland draws a crowd whenever it breaks because working days are scarce. Intermediate to experienced surfers from the wider Marseille area converge quickly on any viable swell. Respect the lineup, wait your turn, and don't paddle around people. Dawn patrol on the first day of a new swell cycle is your best window for a less frantic session.

Access & Facilities

A car park serves the spot. No facilities on site, so bring water and food. The rocky shelf demands reef-aware footwear for entry and exit. No notable pollution or hazard concerns are flagged, but shallow rock at low tide warrants care on bigger sets.

Nearby Alternatives

When Pin Rolland is flat or blown out, Fabregas to the east offers a different angle on SE swell, and the Six-Fours peninsula holds a wider swell window with better wind exposure overall. East Marseille's premier right-hand reef spot is worth checking if a solid SE pulse is running and you want something with more hollow.
