A submerged reef break near Le Grau d'Agde that reportedly produced fast, punchy lefts and a barreling right, La Guillotine needs a committed SW swell to wrap into its southeast-facing setup on the Île des Loisirs. Offshore northerly winds and any tide would bring it to life between 3ft and 6ft-plus, but it demanded patience: smaller inside waves would sucker you into poor position while the real sets swung wide. It suited intermediates who could read a reef lineup, though weekend crowds could turn ultra-competitive fast. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: SW swell windows, typically autumn-winter. Consistency: medium at best. Multiple local reports confirm the wave no longer exists, replaced by a breakwater, so verify current conditions before making any trip with this spot in mind.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekend crowds were noted as ultra-competitive for what is a short-ride wave. A 50m ride goes fast, which compresses the lineup and raises tension. Dawn patrol or mid-week sessions were the sensible approach. With the wave potentially no longer breaking as described, this is largely a moot point.

Access & Facilities

Follow the river from Le Grau d'Agde toward the sea. No facilities on site and free parking nearby. Given the repeated WannaSurf reports that a breakwater has replaced the wave, a local check or recent satellite review is essential before visiting.

Nearby Alternatives

The broader Cap d'Agde coastline and the Hérault rivermouth area offer beach break options when Mediterranean swells are running. Marseillan Plage and the Gulf of Lion beachbreaks can pick up the same SW-S swells and are worth scouting if this spot is confirmed out of action.
