A rare cold-water point break running up to a mile long, Right Point sits on the western tip of an island roughly 10 miles south of Osbourne Head, Nova Scotia. Three distinct sections peel over cobblestone and shelf rock, and when a solid S or SE swell links them top-to-bottom, the ride exceeds California's Rincon in raw length. Best from chest-high to overhead, it needs mid tide and a clean NW wind to hold its shape. Tropical cyclones fuel it through late summer and fall, frontal systems keep it alive from late fall through spring. Bottom: rock. Season: late summer through spring. Consistency: storm-dependent. Arrive at dawn on a weekday if you want breathing room, because weekends bring a heavy, territorial crowd that is openly unwelcoming to unfamiliar faces.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays bring a manageable handful. Weekends turn the lineup heavy and the vibe intimidating. Localism here is real and persistent. Respect the pecking order, don't snake sets, and let your surfing speak for itself over several sessions before expecting a warm reception.

Access & Facilities

Drive to the western end of the island and park in the area above the break. Steps lead down to the base of the cliff. Paddling out through the right-hander on the far side of the peak is the standard route and puts you in a natural inside position. Dress for Atlantic cold: water temperatures demand a 5/4 with booties and gloves for winter sessions.

Nearby Alternatives

When Right Point is blown out or maxed, the Nova Scotia South Shore holds several beach and point options that pick up similar S and SE swells with slightly more forgiving conditions. Lawrencetown Beach is the region's most established go-to for a cross-check when this spot isn't firing.
