A-frame peaks break off a rocky point and spread across the beach at Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia's most accessible cold-water surf zone sitting 20 minutes east of Halifax. SW to NE swells find this stretch well, with the point concentrating energy into a right that runs short and slow on average days but stretches out on bigger, longer-period groundswell. The left off the point can barrel on the right sand and swell combo. Works from 3ft upward, holds to 6ft-plus, and stays relatively uncrowded on weekdays with only a handful of surfers on weekends. Bottom: mixed reef and beach. Season: spring through autumn, with winter producing the biggest surf for those willing to suit up. Water temps run 8-16C outside winter, dropping colder still in January and February. Bring a 4/3 minimum in spring and autumn, a 5/4 with hood and boots in winter. Rocky points mean foot protection is not optional here, it is essential.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup is quiet by most standards. Weekdays you may have the water to yourself, weekends attract a small local crew. Halifax surfers keep this spot on rotation but it does not pull the aggressive crowds of better-known Eastern Seaboard breaks. Respect the local knowledge here. Cold water and remote feel naturally filter casual visitors.

Access & Facilities

Drive 20 minutes east from Halifax. Paddle-out is a short five minutes from the beach. Rocky points demand reef booties regardless of season. A local surf shop in the area has historically been a resource for gear and conditions intel. No elaborate facilities on-site, so bring water and layers.

Nearby Alternatives

If Lawrencetown is choppy or gutless, Martinique Beach 25 minutes down the road tends to be cleaner on messy days. Nova Scotia's coastline holds other point setups worth exploring when the main break is not cooperating.
