A fast, powerful right-hand cobble point wrapping into a sheltered bay on Nova Scotia's South Shore, Broad Cove delivers surprisingly long rides when the conditions align. Optimal on S swell with offshore winds from the NW to W quadrant, the wave picks up best at high tide and holds from around 3ft to a punchy 10ft. Three distinct pointbreaks share the cove, so crowds can spread out, but the lineup is intermediate-to-advanced territory given the speed and power on offer. Bottom: cobblestone point. Season: Sep-Nov and Mar-Apr. Consistency: medium. The parking situation is genuinely awkward, so plan your approach carefully and leave no trace, this is private-adjacent terrain and access depends on surfers behaving respectfully.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are occasional rather than constant, partly due to Nova Scotia's shoulder-season windows and the medium consistency rating. Three breaks in the cove help diffuse pressure. That said, Atlantic Canada's surf community is tight-knit, so respect in the lineup goes a long way. Dawn sessions in the autumn swell season are your best bet for space.

Access & Facilities

There is no dedicated parking and no facilities on site. Pack water, food, and a full change of clothes. Water temps in Nova Scotia demand a 4/3 minimum in peak autumn season, with 5/4 plus boots standard by November. Hazards are listed as low, but cobblestone bottoms and fast walls are unforgiving at size.

Nearby Alternatives

When Broad Cove is too small or the swell angle is wrong, Cherry Hill to the north offers a long sandy beach with a left at one end that responds to NE swell. Western Head's Scotts Bay right point is another S-swell option worth checking when the W wind component is present.
