A reliable right-hand point tucked along Brazil's Rio de Janeiro south coast, Praia do Carapebus delivers a ripable wall that rewards intermediates willing to share the lineup with a consistent local crew. E swells are the sweet spot, with the rocky point shaping a cleaner, more defined wall than S swell angle, which tends to close out quicker. Dropping tide is the move: as the water pulls back, the reef organizes and the right wall lengthens noticeably, giving 50-100m of workable face. Offshore winds blow from the west, so mornings before the sea breeze fills in are the most reliable window. Crowds are frequent given the break's consistency, and locals know this wave well. Bottom: rocky point reef. Season: year-round with peaks in austral autumn and winter. Consistency: high. Arrive early, read the pecking order, and give respect to earn your share of the sets.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a busy lineup most days. Consistency draws a tight local crew who know the break intricately. Don't drop in, wait your turn, and acknowledge the regulars before paddling straight to the peak. Dawn patrol significantly reduces the crowd.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available near the beach. There are no facilities on site, so bring water and food. No pollution or hazard concerns are flagged, but watch for submerged rocks near the point on lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

Praia Mole, just off the point tip, offers reef-anchored peaks that fire in similar swell conditions and provide a useful option when Carapebus is maxed or too crowded. Further along the Serra coastline, Jacaraipe's open beach picks up all swell undulations and can offer less competitive peaks on the same E-S swell window.
