A remote beachbreak and sandspit point on Cabretta Island, fronting Sapelo Island off the Georgia coast, accessible only by boat or kayak. The sandspit delivers longer-than-average lefts on E or NE swells, best at low to mid tide, while the beachbreak section works across all swells and comes alive at high tide. Ideal wind is W or NW to keep faces clean. Best size runs knee- to head-high, and the wave suits everyone from beginners on longboards to shortboarders hunting the longer lefts off the point. Crowds are essentially nonexistent given the boat-only access. Bottom: Sand. Season: late summer, early fall, early spring. Consistency: moderate, tide- and swell-dependent. The remoteness is real: if you get hurt out here, emergency help is a long paddle and a boat ride away, so go prepared and never surf alone.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect nobody out. The boat-only access filters out the crowds entirely. The vibe is as welcoming as it gets, largely because there's almost never anyone else there. That solitude cuts both ways: enjoy it, but don't rely on anyone else in the water if conditions turn.

Access & Facilities

You need a boat or kayak to reach Cabretta Island. There are no facilities on the beach itself. Camping is available at Cabretta campground on Sapelo Island through the Georgia DNR, which requires advance reservation. Bring all your own water, food, and first-aid supplies. Strong currents and sea creatures (jellyfish, stingrays) are the primary hazards. Shuffle your feet on entry.

Nearby Alternatives

Sapelo Island's surrounding barrier coast has additional beachbreak options accessible by water. When swell is absent, the nearby mainland Georgia coast around Darien or Brunswick offers easier-access stretches of beachbreak, though quality is similarly swell-dependent.
