A jetty-influenced beach break on Georgia's coast, 18th St. Jetty produces a workable left off the groin when a solid ENE swell fills in. Best conditions arrive on NE, E, or SE swells in the knee-to-head-high range, paired with W or NW offshores and a mid tide. The current is almost always a factor here: strong NE winds and accompanying windswells push a persistent north-to-south drift that will have you walking back up the beach between sets. Intermediate surfers will get the most from it, though beginners can work the smaller days and experienced riders find enough shape on the better swells. Bottom: sand. Season: late summer, early fall, early spring. Consistency: moderate. Expect a drift when it's on, so pack a leash you trust and be honest about your paddling fitness before committing to the lineup.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup vibe is mellow and welcoming. Crowds build to moderate in summer, but the current that comes with rideable swell tends to thin the pack naturally. Dawn patrol in shoulder season is your best bet for open peaks and a relaxed atmosphere.

Access & Facilities

Easy to find and straightforward to reach. Street parking near the jetty fills quickly on summer weekends, so arrive early and bring coins for the meters. Water quality runs clean most of the year, though runoff after heavy rain can affect it. Watch for strong lateral currents and the occasional jellyfish or stingray shuffle when wading in.

Nearby Alternatives

When 18th St. Is too drifty or blown out, check other jetty and pier breaks along the Georgia coast that respond to the same NE swell window. Spots further north or south on the island can offer slightly different sandbank setups and may handle the wind or tide differently on the same swell.
