A punchy sandbar break on Taiwan's northeast coast, Fulong sits about 90 minutes from central Taipei and catches NE swells funneled down from the Pacific. Optimal conditions are NE to E swell at 3-8ft, mid tide, with light SW offshore winds keeping the faces clean. The main peak sits just outside the harbour wall and throws up both a short lefthander and a more powerful right that can run 150-300m on a solid swell. Best from September through March when typhoon groundswells and NE monsoon pulses fill in consistently. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn-winter. Consistency: moderate to high during typhoon season. Bring a step-up if swell pushes past 6ft as the right can get ledgy and fast on the bigger sets.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are quiet with a very thin lineup. Weekends attract a small but passionate local crew who know these peaks intimately. Vibe is genuinely welcoming across skill levels. Respect the rotation, especially on the better sets, and you will be surfing with grins all around.

Access & Facilities

Fulong township is served by a single main road off the coastal highway, the beach is a short walk from the train station, which makes car-free day trips from Taipei straightforward. Food stalls and basic amenities are in the town centre. The harbour wall is a key landmark for finding the main peak.

Nearby Alternatives

When Fulong is blown out or too small, other northeast coast beachbreaks in the Yilan and Keelung corridor pick up similar NE swell and can offer cleaner or larger surf depending on the swell angle. Waiao near Yilan is a consistent alternative worth checking on the same run.
