A cobblestone reef right off Costa Azul, just west of San José del Cabo, Zippers delivers one of the better waves in the Los Cabos area when a solid S or SW swell fills in. Best from head-high to double-overhead on a low-to-mid tide, it needs a clean S swell and N wind to show its full potential. The takeoff is forgiving outside the exposed rocks, but the wave quickly accelerates along the cobblestone reef, offering wall after wall for progressive turns and occasional air sections on the inside. Advanced surfers will get the most out of it, but the real filter here is the crowd, not the wave. Bottom: cobblestone reef and sand. Season: April through October. Consistency: reliable when S swell is running. The localism at Zippers is genuine and documented, with a known local crew that enforces priority aggressively. Drop-ins happen constantly in both directions. Bring patience, surf conservatively, and take your waves from the shoulder until you read the lineup.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is Cabo's most crowded wave, and localism here is not casual posturing. There is an established local crew that surfs aggressively and does not respond well to confrontation. Dropping in is routine from both sides of the lineup. Weekends are ultra-crowded. Dawn patrol on a weekday gives you the best ratio of waves to humans, but even then, adjust your expectations. Do not paddle straight to the peak on your first session.

Access & Facilities

Coast Azul has a large paved parking lot directly at the break. No long walk required. Food and amenities are close by in San José del Cabo. The water quality is generally clean. Primary hazards are the cobblestone reef on shallow sections and collisions with other surfers, both of which become more likely as the crowd builds.

Nearby Alternatives

When Zippers is maxed out or the crowd is unbearable, the East Cape stretch north of San José picks up the same S swells with far fewer bodies in the water. Rocky Point, further along the coast, offers a different reef setup that rewards the same S swell window and can hold a bit more size.
