A powerful point-break wedged between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, Costa Azul is the most accessible surf on the Los Cabos corridor and one of the few quality waves in the region that holds size. South and SW swells wrap around the point and deliver long, walling rides that can run all the way to shore, with late-session sets pushing 6-8ft and arriving in tight groups that make the paddle-out a genuine workout. The bottom is rocky reef, which gets shallow and consequential at low tide, so surf it mid to high. Water temps run warm year-round, bathwater in summer, making it an easy entry logistically. Bottom: reef. Season: summer south swells, May through October. Consistency: moderate to high when swell is running. Arrive early before the afternoon bump in swell size and wind chop makes the lineup more committing than the crowd-to-wave ratio is worth.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The Los Cabos surf community is centered here, with Costa Azul Surf Shop sitting directly across the road, so expect a local contingent that knows the lineup well. Tourist volume from nearby resorts adds to the crowd on good days. Respect standard priority rules, don't snake sets, and give ground to the regulars on the better peaks.

Access & Facilities

The break sits on the coastal highway between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo Airport. Access to the beach requires passing through hotel or private property adjacent to the cliff line, though this has historically been tolerated. Costa Azul Surf Shop on the landside of the road offers rentals and local knowledge. No elaborate gear needed: boardies and reef booties for protection at low tide.

Nearby Alternatives

When Costa Azul is maxed out or blown out, Zippers a short distance down the coast offers a more sheltered, workable wave in the same swell window. Monuments, further toward Cabo, picks up size on bigger SW swells and suits advanced surfers comfortable with heavier conditions.
