A fickle, wind-battered stretch of reef and beach on Baja's exposed Pacific coast near San Antonio, Punta Santo Domingo earns its local nickname of the worst surf beach in the area most days of the year. Strong onshore winds and persistent currents dominate the lineup, producing closeout sets that shut down any real ride the majority of sessions. SW to NW swell is needed, ideally 4-8ft with high tide, and the rare convergence of clean conditions in late fall can produce longer walls pushing 150-300m. Intermediate to advanced surfers only, given the exposed reef, rip currents, and heavy paddle-out. Bottom: mixed reef and beach. Season: September to November. Consistency: low. Go in with no expectations, and you might be pleasantly surprised on one of its rare good days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The saving grace here is the lack of crowd. Weekdays are essentially empty, weekends draw only a handful of surfers. There is no significant localism pressure reported, but given the challenging conditions, you earn every wave you catch.

Access & Facilities

The beach is easy to reach from the town of San Antonio. No significant facilities on site, so bring water, food, and sun protection. Strong rip currents are the primary hazard alongside exposed reef at lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

When Punta Santo Domingo is doing what it usually does, head further south toward Los Barriles or La Ribera on the East Cape side for more wind-protected options, or north for spots that handle similar swell with better shape.
