Two right-hand points and a right reef called Cuevas sit inside Magdalena Bay on Baja Sur's Pacific coast, reachable only by boat out of Puerto San Carlos. The setup fires on S to SW swells from spring through fall, with offshore winds keeping faces clean across a size range of roughly 3 to 8ft. Mid-tide tends to be the sweet spot on the points, while Cuevas can handle a bit more water. Intermediate surfers will find plenty to work with, and the boat-only access filters the crowd down to almost no one on most days. Bottom: mixed reef and point. Season: April through October. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Pack everything you need before leaving San Carlos, because there are no facilities once you're out on the water.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Remote access is the real crowd filter here. Boat charters out of Puerto San Carlos bring small groups, and mid-week visits during shoulder months mean you may share the lineup with no one at all. No significant localism reported, but the usual respect protocol applies: read the lineup, don't snake the charter captain.

Access & Facilities

No road access. Boat charter from Puerto San Carlos is the only way in. Bring all food, water, sunscreen, and spare leashes. Water temp runs warm enough for boardies or a light 1mm through summer, spring and fall mornings may call for a 2mm top. Watch for rocks near Cuevas at lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

If the swell angle isn't cooperating at the points, the bay itself can produce rideable beach break in the right conditions. Puerto San Carlos also has services for resupply if you need a rest day between sessions.
