Consistent beachbreak peaks at the base of the lighthouse cliff, tucked into one of the few genuinely wind-sheltered pockets on the Rio Grande do Sul coast. S swells wrap around the headland and produce faster, longer right-handers, while E swell fills in the banks for more variable peaks. The offshore wind is NW, and the spot rides all tides, making it functional across most of the tidal window. S wind shelter from the cliffs keeps the surface cleaner when onshore conditions ruin everything else nearby. Bottom is sand, size range is 2-8ft, consistency is high, season is year-round. Beginners benefit from the forgiving beach bottom and reliable swell, but expect a busy lineup, especially in summer when Torres draws crowds from Porto Alegre and beyond. Arrive early or target mid-week sessions if you want space in the water.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This spot draws consistent crowds, and Torres as a whole is the entry point for surf tourism on this stretch of coast. Weekends and summer school holidays will see the lineups fill quickly. Localism is not a headline issue, but basic etiquette matters in a tight peak. Early morning sessions on weekdays offer the best combination of cleaner winds and fewer people.

Access & Facilities

A car park sits directly above the break, and camping is available in the area, making this a practical base for a few days on the coast. The lighthouse hill landmark makes it easy to locate. Water quality is listed without concerns, and there are no flagged hazards, though the cliffs mean limited paddle-out alternatives if the shore break is messy.

Nearby Alternatives

When Praia da Cal is blown out or too crowded, Prainha nearby offers hollow rock-anchored peaks that can hold shape in similar conditions. If N or NE winds are running, Guarita produces powerful protected peaks over a rocky bottom and is worth the short transfer up the coast.
