The north jetty at Barra do Mampituba lines up reliable right-handers on the northern edge of Torres, a standout stretch of coast in Rio Grande do Sul where basalt rock formations frame the beach. S swell is the sweet spot, with the jetty focusing and organizing the banks to produce defined walls running 50-100m. Westerly winds clean up the face and the break works across all tides, making it accessible most days. Size range of 2-8ft means it handles everything from fun waist-high runners to overhead sets. Estuary outflow from the Mampituba river introduces pollution that worsens after rain, so factor that into your session timing. Bottom: sand with jetty influence. Season: autumn through spring for more consistent S and SE swell. Consistency: high. Beginner to intermediate surfers will find the structure forgiving, but the canal between the jetties carries boat traffic and fishing nets, so stay to the north side of the break.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Torres is a well-known summer resort town and crowds are frequent, especially during Brazilian summer holidays. The peak at the jetty concentrates surfers into one zone. Dawn patrol is the practical move to find space. Localism is present but not oppressive. Respect the lineup priority and you will be fine.

Access & Facilities

A car park is available at the beach but no surf facilities on site. Avoid surfing the canal between the jetties due to active boat traffic and fishing nets. After heavy rain, estuary pollution from the Mampituba river can make water quality poor. Torres town has food, accommodation, and surf shops within easy reach.

Nearby Alternatives

If the north jetty is maxed out or too crowded, Praia dos Molhes off the south jetty offers a left wall with some protection from N winds. Prainha delivers punchy, often hollow beachbreak peaks anchored by rock formations just south. Praia Grande runs 2km and picks up peaks in SE summer swells for surfers wanting more room to spread out.
