A punchy right-hand reef point that draws the best surfers in Ceará, Ronco do Mar sits right in town on the coast north of Fortaleza. It picks up swell from the NW through E window and fires best on a northerly push, with offshore conditions from a S wind. Mid to high tide is mandatory: low tide exposes the rocky reef and the wave becomes genuinely dangerous, shifting from fast right-hand walls to a hazardous shorebreak. This is intermediate-to-advanced territory, and the take-off zone is compact and permanently crowded since it is widely regarded as the best break in the area and hosts high-level pro contests. Bottom: reef. Season: consistent year-round, peak activity with N-NE trades. Consistency: medium. Book your session at dawn before the lineup fills, and sit wide on the peak to catch the longer set waves before the crowd positions.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup here is always packed. The take-off zone is tight, and the local crew is skilled, competitive, and protective of their home break, especially during and around contest periods. Respect the pecking order, read the lineup before paddling out, and earn your waves. Hassling or snaking will not be tolerated.

Access & Facilities

The break is right in town, which makes access straightforward. Free parking is available nearby. There are no dedicated surf facilities on site, so come self-sufficient with water and wax. The surrounding residential area has food and supply options close by. Pollution is noted as residential-level, so check water quality after heavy rain before paddling out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Ronco do Mar is too crowded or the tide is wrong, Praia do Havaizinho offers an alternative that can fire on mid to high tides. A few kilometres west, Pedra do Meio delivers another right-point option identified by large boulder rocks. For a full spread of peaks without the contest-level crowd pressure, Taibinha's beachbreak acts as a reliable swell magnet in the region.
