A small beach-break tucked just around the headland from the main Jericoacoara village, Malade is where local surfers escape the tourist buzz and cool off in the northeast Brazilian heat. The wave runs on onshore wind swell generated by the region's famously fierce trade winds, working best at high tide when rideable 3-5ft peaks push through. SW to SE winds drive the swell directly onto the beach, so expectations should be tempered accordingly: these are messy, shore-pound peaks rather than groomed open-ocean lines. Beginners will find it approachable, and the consistently warm water means boardshorts year-round. Bottom: beach. Season: consistent when the trades are pumping, roughly May through December. Consistency: moderate. Arrive at or just before high tide to find the best shape the beach can offer.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Few surfers on both weekdays and weekends, though the beach sits near a busy travel hub. The relaxed vibe reflects the wave's quality: nothing heavy here, locals are friendly, and pressure in the lineup is minimal. Respect the space regardless.

Access & Facilities

A short walk or buggy ride from Jericoacoara village brings you to Malade beach. Jeri has full tourist infrastructure including board rentals, pousadas, food, and cold drinks close by. No documented water quality issues, but northeast Brazil wind and sand can make for gritty conditions. Watch for strong longshore drift driven by the trade winds.

Nearby Alternatives

If wind swell at Malade is too messy, Jericoacoara's main beach occasionally produces better peaks. The broader Ceara coastline has several more exposed beach-breaks worth exploring when the trades ease and a proper groundswell arrives.
