Tucked inside the Point Judith Harbor of Refuge, K38/39 delivers two of the longest rideable walls in Rhode Island off a boulder reef. K38 is the headline act: a long, workable left that can run up to 300 metres across multiple sections without ever getting too critical, making it a genuine longboard playground. K39 mirrors it with a shorter right-hander. Both respond well to E through SE swell with offshore W to NW winds, size range of 3-8ft is where they really open up. Intermediate surfers will feel at home here, and the 20-minute walk along the harbour wall from the Point Judith lighthouse keeps the crowd thinner than you'd expect for a wave this good. Bottom: Boulder reef. Season: Spring, with September the standout month. Consistency: Reasonably consistent year-round. Bring footwear for the walk and reef shoes in the water, boulders are unforgiving on a wipeout.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The access walk naturally filters out casual surfers and keeps the lineup manageable. Localism is not a noted issue, but the regular crew who make the hike tend to know each other. Read the vibe, be respectful in a busy lineup, and let sets come to you.

Access & Facilities

Park near the Point Judith lighthouse and follow the harbour wall on foot roughly 20 minutes to the break. There is no vehicle access closer. No facilities at the break itself. Bring water, snacks, and anything else you need. Rocky entry and exit over boulders demands care, especially in larger surf.

Nearby Alternatives

When K38/39 is flat or blown out, Narragansett Town Beach a few kilometres north offers exposed beach break peaks that pick up swell from more directions. Matunuck, a short drive east, is another reliable Rhode Island option when the angle is right.
