A swell-shadowed sand beach south of Boston, Egypt Beach trades power for accessibility, producing long but soft peaks best suited to longboards and funboards. Located near Scituate, roughly 15 minutes south of Nantasket Beach, it sits deep inside Boston Harbor's shadow zone, meaning NE swell is the essential ingredient to get anything worth paddling out for. SW winds groom the surface when the swell cooperates. Best from waist to head-high, low to mid tide on the incoming push, with scattered rocks along the shorepound demanding attention at lower water. Weekdays stay mellow with just a handful of surfers, weekends draw more bodies but rarely feel hostile. Bottom: sand with scattered rocks. Season: September through March. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Water quality is fair given proximity to Boston Harbor, so a clean swell window matters more here than just size.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday sessions are quiet and the vibe stays welcoming across all ability levels. Crowds build on weekends, especially in the warmer months when lifeguards and swimmers share the beach. Winter thins the lineup dramatically, though the trade-off is full winter rubber and genuinely punishing cold. Shoulder burn is real in January.

Access & Facilities

Easy road access near Scituate with no serious logistical hurdles. Lifeguards are active in summer so check flagged zones before paddling. Water quality rates fair due to Boston Harbor proximity. Bring a thermos in winter. Nearby Rockies is a short drive away for a slightly emptier, rockier alternative when Egypt is maxed or crowded.

Nearby Alternatives

Rockies, just a short ride up the road, offers a less crowded session with a rockier bottom and similar swell exposure. Nantasket Beach, 15 minutes north, picks up more swell and handles size better when a solid NE groundswell is running.
