A long right-hand point on the tip of Cape St Francis Bay, Seal Point delivers some of the most consistent powerful surf in the Jeffreys Bay region when J-Bay itself goes flat or too small to hold a crowd. SE to S swells wrap around the headlight and peel along the point for 100 to 500m on a good day, with barrel sections up top and carve walls below. Any wind from S through NW keeps it clean, making the swell window genuinely broad. Intermediate surfers can get waves here, but the fast, hollow sections and the submerged Full Stop rock ledge that splits the break at low tide demand respect and good wave-reading. Bottom: point. Season: May through October. Consistency: high. Bring a step-up for bigger SE swells and check the tide before paddling out past Full Stop. The inside section prefers higher tides while the outside upper section works better at high, so plan your session around the tide chart rather than just showing up.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Seal Point draws overflow crowds from J-Bay when conditions there underperform, so expect the lineup to fill up on weekends and during good winter swells. It runs quieter than Supertubes but is not a secret. Arrive at dawn on weekdays for the most space. Respect in the lineup is the standard Cape St Francis protocol.

Access & Facilities

Drive the N2 from J-Bay toward Humansdorp, then follow signs to Cape St Francis. The road runs to the coast and ends at the Seal Point Lighthouse carpark. There are no facilities at the break itself, so carry water and food. The Full Stop rock is a genuine hazard at low tide. Sharks are a known presence in the bay.

Nearby Alternatives

When Seal Point is too big or maxed out, Cape St Francis Beach is worth checking in smaller swells with S to NW winds. Bruce's Beauties fires on big S to SE swells for experienced chargers, while the beginner-friendly mellow lefts at Hullet's Reef in St Francis Bay suit those looking for something tamer.
