King's Beach is the main town beach of Caloundra, Queensland, sitting at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast and catching whatever small swell filters through Moreton Bay. It works best on SE swell at 2-4ft, with a light offshore from the NW most mornings. Mid to high tide fills in the shore break, low tide exposes dry sand sections that close out fast. The headland at the north end and the rock shelf at the south end are the two best zones, offering marginally better shape than the exposed middle. Crowd reality: weekdays are quiet, weekends bring families and learners in numbers. Bottom: sand. Season: March to August for the most consistent SE swells. Consistency: low to moderate, with extended flat spells common. If swell is absent mid-beach, the headland end holds form a little longer and is worth a look before driving elsewhere.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are calm with just a handful of surfers out. Weekends turn busier, with learners, surf school groups, and families sharing the water. Localism is minimal. The atmosphere is relaxed and holiday-friendly. Expect patience to be required around inexperienced surfers on the inside.

Access & Facilities

Easy road access directly from the main beach road. Parking off Dingle Street near the groyne or off Merima Street. Cafes visible from the beach. Lifeguard patrol on weekends. No serious hazards beyond occasional rip near the groyne on bigger swells.

Nearby Alternatives

Moffat Beach and Dicky Beach are both within a few km and can offer better shape on the same swell. When Caloundra is flat, the southern end of Noosa or Coolum picks up more open-ocean swell and is worth the drive.
