A long right-hand sand point that wraps into a north-facing bay, Batu Karas sits roughly 40km west of Pangandaran in West Java and delivers rides up to 400m on a solid swell. S and SW swells wrap around the headland at low to mid tide, producing a barrelly outside section that shoulders into a more forgiving inside cove. Offshore winds are westerly, though the jungle-bordered cove keeps SE trades blowing cross-shore through most of the dry season. The wave suits a wide range of ability: the outside point pushes fast and hollow for confident surfers, while the Second Point section inside is mellow enough for beginners and kids on smaller days. Bottom: sand over point. Season: May through October for size and consistency. Consistency: high. Bring a step-up for shoulder-high-plus days when the outside gets sucky and fast, a fish or mid-length handles the inside section well on smaller swells.

Batu Karas carries a generally relaxed, sharing vibe in the lineup. Weekdays are quieter, weekends can see more local and domestic traffic. The two-section layout helps spread the crowd between the outside point and the inside beginner area. Respect the fishing village atmosphere on land.

Access & Facilities

Base yourself in Pangandaran, then take local transport toward Cijulang. The final stretch to Batu Karas requires a motorbike and crosses a bamboo bridge, confirm with your driver before departing or the detour adds significant time. Free parking on site. A lifeguard is present. Food and accommodation are available in the village. No significant pollution or water quality concerns reported.

Nearby Alternatives

Batu Karas Reef (Speed Reef), roughly 15 minutes north on foot, offers a more challenging right-hand reef when the point is too crowded or too small. Pangandaran Beach to the east has consistent S/SW-facing beachbreaks that pick up swell on smaller days. Bulak Benda, about 40 minutes south along the coast, provides another exposed option when the bay is flat.
