A fast, hollow left-hand reef barrel on Rote Island's exposed outer shelf, Peanuts delivers serious tube time when the S to SW swell trains are running. Works best on solid S to SW groundswell from 3ft up to double-overhead and beyond, with NE offshore winds keeping the faces clean. Mid-tide through high tide produces the most consistent barrel sections, though the wave runs across all tides. It suits confident intermediates and advanced surfers who can read a fast, shallow reef and hold a line through committed tube sections. Crowds are rarely an issue, weekend lineups included. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: April through October. Consistency: medium. Sharper reef than neighbouring T-Land means a wipeout carries real consequence, so bring a helmet or at minimum a thick wetsuit top and reef booties to protect against lacerations on the shallow sections.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is quiet by any standard. Weekend crowds are reported as empty and weekday pressure is minimal. A 30-minute bike ride from the main beach strips away casual visitors, leaving a relaxed but serious atmosphere. Respect the reef, respect the few surfers who made the trip.

Access & Facilities

A 30-minute bike ride from Nemberala gets you there. No parking, no facilities, no food or water on site. Pack everything you need including first-aid supplies for reef cuts. The remote access is part of what keeps the crowds down.

Nearby Alternatives

When Peanuts is maxing out or the wind turns onshore, T-Land directly nearby offers a longer, more sheltered left with a more forgiving paddle-out. Squealers toward the rocky eastern end of Nemberala Beach is a softer option for smaller swells. Do'o is Rote's main right-hander and worth checking when S swell direction shifts.
