A remote headland left on the outer reef at Calang delivers fast, hollow walls when the swell window aligns, but earning those waves requires serious commitment. Located on the northwest tip of Aceh's post-tsunami coastline, the break fires on S to W swells in the 3-12ft range, with SE offshore winds cleaning things up. The first section of reef runs too straight and can be unforgiving, but as the wave bends into the northern bay it lines up proper walls and corners worth the effort. The paddle-out alone through sharp reef on the south side demands a cautious exit plan. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: S to W swell season, May through September. Consistency: medium. Bring a step-up and spare leashes because the reef does not care about your equipment budget.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Getting here filters the lineup by default. The rough motorbike track to the point, followed by a long walk and a punishing paddle-out, means crowds are essentially non-existent. Solo sessions are the norm. Respect the remoteness and leave the area cleaner than you found it.

Access & Facilities

Rough motorbike track to the headland tip, then a long walk before punching through the reef. Entry and exit on the south side is sharp rock, so scout your line before committing. No facilities at the break. Stock water and food before leaving Calang town. The onshore winds hit early and often, so a dawn or early morning check is essential before the sea breeze fills in.

Nearby Alternatives

If Calang is blown out or the swell angle is off, Raneue is one of the most consistent waves in the region and offers mostly lefts with the occasional right. Further along the coast, Kuala Unga around the 88km marker is a heavier slab option when swells jack hard onto the reef.
