Park Point
Park Point delivers the only reliable summer surf in the Duluth area, a freshwater beach break on Lake Superior's western tip that punches well above its Great Lakes expectations when conditions align. North and NE wind swells build quickly across the lake, and the spot starts moving at under 3ft, holding shape up to 6ft on bigger fall fetch events. SW or backing winds clean the surface up considerably, and a straight-N wind can produce surprisingly tidy peaks. Skill-wise, this is firmly beginner-to-intermediate territory, and the lineups at 1st Turns and the School House stay uncrowded even on weekends. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, best Jun-Sep for summer access and Oct-Nov for fall swell energy. Consistency: moderate in summer, higher in fall. Bring a thick wetsuit regardless of season. Lake Superior runs cold, and fall sessions demand at minimum a 4/3 with booties as water temps can drop well below 10C by October.
